This status will enable the school to build on existing subject strengths and will support and strengthen the existing ethos of the school as an inclusive but distinctive Church and international school. Through the specialism the school will promote into the wider community a vision of active participation in society and celebration of cultural diversity. Through the specialism the school aims to share and further develop its good practice (Ofsted 2000) in managing behaviour and in inclusive and innovative practices with the police, health authority and social services. We aim to promote a greater understanding of the past and how it interrelates with the present and future of our society. We aim to link this to work related learning associated with specialist subjects and the planning of the Thames Gateway.
We aim to promote further ecumenism and in doing so foster tolerance, respect and understanding of the beliefs of others. We have a strong international dimension and aim to develop this further through links with home countries of immigrants. We encourage links with local churches and other places of worship, with charities and social care providers. Local religious groups often lead collective worship and welcome students visiting their places of worship. We want to develop these links by creating joint learning activities for young and old thereby creating better relationships in the community, supported by links with libraries. Raising achievement through innovation in ICT is a school priority. We have a wireless network, a virtual learning platform and innovative practice with tablet PCs. We aim to develop further learner autonomy through the introduction of laptops for all students in the future. We have an open access sixth form allowing students who achieve 5Cs at GCSE to follow an A level course. We aim to improve our value added over the next four years through Humanities College status, school organisation and design, raising achievement of underperforming groups, innovation, training and partnerships.
