KEY STAGE 3

Each year group is split into sets based on prior maths attainment and teacher assessment.

Pupils in all year groups follow the Key Maths scheme, which has clear differentiation for all abilities.

Own learning is set by the class teacher at least weekly. The work is designed to help pupils consolidate and build on the skills they are learning. All pupils are expected to complete own learning and hand in on time.

We offer a range of activities which supplement the curriculum.

Year 7 this year , have taken part in a trip to Chessington World of Adventure which allowed opportunities to collect data and estimate number.

Other trips have included:

· a theatre trip to see ‘Maths and Legends’ for years 7 and 8;

· a Maths Trail to Gravesend for year 8;

· a visit to Leeds Castle for year 9

Year 7

At the start of year 7 pupils are set, based on their KS2 test results and primary teacher’s assessments. This setting is reviewed during the autumn term.

Less able pupils are supported by the Springboard materials, which contain structured questions and exercises to develop their mathematical skills.

Year 8

Pupils build on strong foundations set in year 7 and continue to develop their mathematical skills.

Year 9

Pupils finish the KS3 course and undertake a major statistical project in preparation for GCSE.
