Information and Communications Technology at Saint George's

Rapid advancement in the field of Information Technology has accelerated the demand for new approaches to the effective integration of information technology into the curriculum. Exciting opportunities exist for group learning. The focus of the teacher is now to facilitate learning and enhance the quality of education afforded. Students need to be equipped with a depth of knowledge and fluency in technology, regardless of their proposed careers.

Here at Saint George's we pursue the philosophy of ubiquitous computing. We work towards producing young people who will be taking their place in the Information Age as professionals, competent in acquiring, processing and presenting information using a variety of industry standard platforms.

We look too, to producing professionals who will become leaders in the information Technology Industry.

The ICT Network

One network serves the students and staff at Saint George's.

A state of the art RM Connect network with 300 machines (150 new machines this/last year) divided into 8 specialist rooms around the school.

The Humanities College has specialist ICT equipment in the rooms devoted entirely to the teaching of humanities with software covering Geography, History and Religious Education.

There are Seven computer centres, each with an average of 25 computers and a separate workroom is available for staff. We have also added a Cisco Laboratory for use of sixth-formers and training purposes. Our computer centres are equipped with projectors, scanners, laser printers, colour printers, CD-Roms, digital cameras and a host of exciting software available for staff and student use. Computer clusters are situated in Languages, the Special Educational Needs department and Science Department. The Media department has 25 brand new high end systems with multimedia capabilities.

Daily computer clubs form part of our active and pervasive computing policy in the school. Computer Club for Girls is a recent government initiative that the school is keen to take part in.
