Health and Social Care is an important and fast growing area of employment. Through studying the course, students develop personal skills such as initiative, teamwork, problem-solving combined with work-related knowledge which are particularly suitable for recruitment in a range of employment categories such as hospitals, NHS trusts, social work, the police force, sports centres or health clubs. Students will study six units, two of which are examined in January. The other four units are assessed through a portfolio of coursework. This is marked internally and externally moderated by the examination board. All portfolio work must be completed and marked by the first week in May. The three mandatory units are: Health, social care and early years provision
Promoting health and well-being
Understanding personal development (examination)
The other three units are: Nutrition and food hygiene
Basic first aid and safety
