Gravesend Early Language Learning Initiative

Saint George's works with a number of primary schools in the area. We have different models of delivering early language learning depending on the resources and expertise available in the primary schools.

Model 1:

French is part of the curriculum in year 5 and 6. The language is taught by the primary school teacher, support comes from Saint George's in terms of training and resources.

Model 2:

French is part of the curriculum in year 5 and year 6. The language is taught by specialist teachers and foreign language assistants from Saint George's. Primary teachers support and do some team teaching.

Model 3:

German and Japanese are taught as tasters by language assistants and specialist teachers in lunch time clubs. Students demonstrate their learning by building displays and doing international assemblies.

Model 4:

Infant school children learn Mandarin Chinese in view of developing an intake in year 7 with wider knowledge of Mandarin Chinese.

Model 5:

Primary schools buy in expertise and resources from Saint George's.
